Returnable containers - Terms of use

INTRODUCTION

Tiffin Indian Cuisine is now offering its customers the opportunity to select eco-friendly packaging when ordering from Tiffin for carry out and delivery. These containers are meant to be used by the customer and then returned to tiffin so they can be sanitized and reused up to 1,000 times, thereby cutting down on the number of plastic containers that end up in our landfills, streets or waterways. The containers must be returned within 4 weeks or the customer will be charged $3.50 per container.

The containers offered through this program are made from BPA free, durable polypropylene, a plastic that has been deemed safe by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) for food contact.

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

When placing your tiffin order online, you will have the opportunity to select our RETURN2TIFFIN eco-friendly returnable containers. The option to select your packaging is located on the Delivery Options page after you select all your items and checkout.

PLEASE CONSIDER CAREFULLY BEFORE MAKING YOUR SELECTION! IF YOU CHOOSE THE RETURNABLE CONTAINERS YOU MUST RETURN THEM WITHIN 4 WEEKS OR YOU WILL BE CHARGED $3.50 PER CONTAINER.

At this time, orders for reusable containers can only be made online at tiffin.com and will be available as long as we have a sufficient number of containers in stock. We may occasionally substitute a larger container for a smaller one and a standard size portion may appear as a smaller quantity in the larger container. The portion size of all tiffin menu items remains the same.

On the Delivery Options page, if you select the returnable containers option, you will be asked to read and click the checkbox to agree to these Terms of Use as stated here. If you would prefer to receive your order in standard Tiffin packaging, or if you are unwilling or unable to agree to the requirements of the RETURN2TIFFIN containers program, you can bypass this option by selecting “disposable containers” and proceed with your order.

By checking the box that you agree with these Terms of Use, you are electing to receive your order in reusable container(s) which must be returned to Tiffin within 28 days (4 weeks) of your receipt of the container(s). If you do not return the container(s) within that time period, if the containers are damaged so they cannot be reused, or if any of the pieces are missing, you authorize Tiffin Indian Cuisine to charge the credit or debit card you use at the time of purchase $3.50 for each unreturned, damaged or incomplete container. This charge may be made at the time of your next online order if the containers have not been returned.

If the containers are returned within 28 days (4 weeks) there is no fee. Containers may be returned by way of a Tiffin delivery driver the next time you order or by dropping them off at the tiffin location where you placed your order, so long as they are returned within the stated time period, are not damaged and all pieces are included.

Tiffin Indian Cuisine reserves the right to establish, remove, and/or revise prices, fees, taxes, and/or surcharges for any or all services or goods obtained through Tiffin Indian Cuisine at any time. Tiffin Indian Cuisine may also, in its sole discretion, make promotional offers with different features and different rates to any or all our customers. Unless made to you, these promotional offers will have no bearing on your obligation to pay the amounts charged.

FAQ

What is the new Return2Tiffin initiative all about?

As are many of our customers, we are concerned about the environmental impact our operations have on our corner of the planet. We have received many comments and emails from tiffin customers about the containers we use for carry-out and delivery orders and know this is a place where we can have a big impact. By choosing to receive your food in our new Return2Tiffin eco-friendly containers, it gives all of us the opportunity to reduce the flow of plastic products into the waste stream.

How can I get these containers?

Return2Tiffin containers are now available at all tiffin locations! You can select them when you order online at tiffin.com. After you place your items in your shopping cart and check out, select "returnable" containers on the Delivery Options page, read and accept the terms of use and then complete your order.

How do I return the containers?

After you have enjoyed your meal, kindly wash out the containers and place them back in the tiffin bag in which your order arrived. Please return your bag with the containers to the tiffin location from where you placed your order within 28 days (4 weeks) of placing your order to avoid being charged $3.50 per container (the charge for us to replace the container). You can hand the bag to your delivery driver the next time you order for delivery or you can drop it at the tiffin location where you placed your order. There should be no food residue in the containers but please do not wash them in the dishwasher. There is a label on each container with a QR code that contains your order information. We need this label to stay intact so we can check your containers back in when you return them, much like a library book.

Why do you want to replace one plastic container with another?

When we pack food for carry out and delivery it is extremely hot. We need containers that can withstand the heat and keep your food safe without leaking. These containers meet our high standard of quality and can be washed and reused up to 1,000 times (we will replace any container that chips or breaks), thereby drastically reducing the number of containers that end up in landfills, in streets or waterways, or are burned. The containers can be recycled at the end of their usable life.

I usually order from tiffin over the phone or in the restaurant. Can I still get my food in the reusable containers?

Not at this time. This option is only available when you order online at tiffin.com.

Do I need to wash them in my dishwasher?

These containers are dishwasher safe but all you need to do is rinse them. There is a label affixed to each container that we need to remain intact so we can scan it and confirm you returned the containers. Once they arrive at the restaurant, they will be cleaned and sanitized.

Will these containers cost me anything?

No! If you return the containers within 28 days (4 weeks) of receiving them, we don't charge you for them. If you don't return the containers within that time you can keep them and we will charge you $3.50 per container. We will send you emailed reminders.

How will you guarantee that the containers are thoroughly cleaned?

Every tiffin location is equipped with a washing and sanitizing machine that is maintained monthly and passes strict inspection by tiffin and county health inspectors. These containers will go through the same cleaning procedure as dishes, glasses and silverware that are used when you dine in any restaurant that offers sit down service.

Can I keep my container?

You may! Customers choosing to keep their containers will be charged $3.50 per container.

Tell me more about the environmental benefits.

The containers typically last well over 1,000 uses. That eliminates the emissions and waste from over 1,000 manufacturing processes. This is way better than even conventional recycling. Recycling generates as much as 67% of the emissions of virgin-material manufacturing, because of the energy used in processing old materials and re-manufacturing. By contrast, Return2Tiffin containers drastically reduces all downstream production emissions.

Reusing our containers also saves tremendous transportation energy. Single-use containers travel long distances from factory to restaurant to customer to landfill. Our containers circulate locally among restaurants and diners, usually just within a few mile radius. Though our containers are made abroad, they are lightweight and travel here by cargo ship, a fuel-efficient journey more than made up for by the reductions in car and truck emissions.
